Mahindra to compete in the MPV market
From the looks of it, Mahindra & Mahindra’s upcoming Innova rival could arrive in
showrooms in . According to reports, the development of this new product began a
few years back at Mahindra’s North American Technical Centre (MNATC) in Michigan. The manufacturer is carrying out extensive testing in India to tune it according to our conditions. This new Mahindra MPV will be a global product and will be sold in multiple international markets.
The upcoming Mahinda MPV is the first of many products Mahindra intends to develop at its facility in Michigan. Also in the pipeline is a new small SUV based on the Ssangyong Tivoli’s platform. This new SUV will be cheaper than the XUV500 and will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster.
This Toyota Innova Crysta rival will be priced in the 10 -15 lacs range. Such pricing will position it between the Innova Crysta and the Mahindra Xylo. Mahindra could continue to sell base variants of the Xylo to fleet operators and cabbies even after the new MPV comes to the market. There is a lot of uncertainty surrounding the price of the new Mahindra MPV, but it will almost certainly be cheaper than the Toyota Innova Crysta. Pricing could be similar to that of the 110 PS variants of the Renault Lodgy.

By the time the New Mahindra MPV launch takes place in India, the Tata Hexa would have also gone on sale at an estimated price of INR 10-15 lakhs. Also, Mahindra could introduce petrol variants of the MPV at a later stage with a starting price of about INR 9 lakhs. In all probability, the upcoming MPV will replace the age old Xylo. It is also possible that Mahindra will keep selling base variants of the Xylo to fleet owners and cabbies as the Logan/Verito has been given the same treatment.
