When it comes to entry level full size sedans, the Toyota Avalon has always been a front-runner though the car has been with us for over two decades now , it hasn't lost its charm , character and attitude.
The first generation of Avalon were designed in the USA by Toyota Kentucky and went into production in the year 1994. The soul aim of Toyota was to challenge the Nissan Maxima which was accepted overwhelmingly by all .
The first gen Avalon was powered by a 3.0 litre V6 vvt engine designed completely in USA. The car was sold until 2000 in many parts of the world .
The second gen Avalon was the underdog of Toyota's dream to lead the full size sedan market , overthrowing the Maxima , Towncar and other competitors of its time . It took Toyota to the next level of luxury car making . The second gen Avalon had several inputs from the luxury brand of Toyota , Lexus. This helped Toyota redefine luxury in the small market.The 3.5 litre V6 was a standard option , along with navigation in the later versions of the car. This version of Avalon was sold until 2005.
Beginning from 2006 the full size sedan market was growing and so was the competition. The Mazda 6 , Honda Accord , Hyundai Azera were all in the game. Toyota then released it sparkling new Avalon which had the most powerful engine , the longest wheelbase , and largest trunk capacity compared to any other car in the segment . The 3.5 litre V6 was carried fro the previous version but had improved in performance and interior quality and ambience was value for money compared to the flimsy materials on the other cars in the segment . Toyota had once again won the battle . This version saw minor facelifts in the year 2011.
The current generation of the Avalon began in 2015 , receiving a first in class touch screen dashboard. A major update to this version of the Avalon was its aerodynamic designed making it look similar to its richer cousin ES 350 . The ES 350 and the Avalon share 90% of parts and have the same specs. This has taken the Avalon to Lexus level styling , comfort and value for money. This version also has a hybrid version sold in the USA and Asian countries. The fourth gen Avalon received a major facelift in 2016.
