Lexus LFA-(Lexus Fuji-speedway Apex)- The pinnacle of Toyota Engineering

A halo car from the worlds second largest automaker, fitted with an F1 pedigree engine, by far the coolest sounding exhaust, carbon fiber monocoque, chassis, hood, steering you name it...the LFA was a Carbon Fiber Opera on wheels.

speed and power... A Jeremy Clarkson by all means while the others focused on comfort and luxury like May . No wonder the Alpha Ape of the Auto world called the LFA his most favorite car.
Back in 2000, Toyota And Lexus started a project code named the TXS and by 2003 the first prototype of the car was out. But from here on the Lexus took 7 to 8 years to deliver the production version of the car

The Heart

The LFA was powered by a Dual VVT-i 1LR-UZE 4.8L V10 engine producing 553Hp and 354 LB FT of torque achieving 0-60 in 3.6sec and topping at 325km/hr(202 mph). Constructed using forged Aluminium pistons, forged titanium connecting rods and solid titanium valves, the engine redlined at 9000 rpm. The Heart of the LFA weighs less than Toyota's own 2GR-FE V6 engine. The engineers at Toyota had designed an engine that sounded like an F1 engine at the same time mainating the modus operandi of Toyota's Reliability and Vibration Control. The entire engine was co-developed with Yamaha making it the Greatest sounding engine fitted to a production car.

The Heartbeat Sensor

Initially the car was designed to have an analog tachometer, during the first test run the rev line of the car was so high that the analog tachometer could not keep up to the speed and fluttered around the place. Lexus claimed their engine could rev from idle to redline in 0.6 seconds. This made the engineers design the first Digital Tachometer in a production vehicle but the car would take another 8 years to come into production.

The Body

Born as an all aluminium car from the pedals to the bodywork, Lexus scrapped the plan of the aluminium chassis to switch to a carbon fiber body. The monocoque was the first to get the carbon fiber treatment followed by the all of the body work to the hood and finally the steering. The only bits that remained aluminium were the center console and the pedals.

Aerodynamics

The wing mirrors were funnel shaped so as to allow the wind to reach the side vents, the active aerodynamics allowed the rear spoiler to activate when the car achieved 50 mph.

Weight Distribution
To maintain a near ideal weight distribution, a rear trans-axle is used, in addition to the mounting of the fuel tank ahead of the rear axle and the radiators at the rear. The windshield washer fluid reservoir is mounted in the center next to the fuel tank to improve further the center of weight.

Its here in 2012

Finally when the LFA made its debut in 2012, a number of other super cars like the GTR, Murcielago, Corvette ZR1 and many others had already been in the market for quite sometime effectively stealing the spotlight that Lexus hoped to receive. The short production series of 500 cars could only be leased and not bought outright which further strained the sales of the car. Well currently there could be 7 more LFAs left for sale and if you wish to put your money into this future classic then now is your time.

Hope to buy an LFA if Lexus makes them sometime again in the future.
